... seems to drop further and further down the priority "To Do" list. At the moment, it is at #4, when it started at #1.

Anyway, part of that reason is, we can't seem to get the wellman out to the job site to talk with us a bit more about a possible location of the bore (well). However, we have sorted out the initial tank for the system.

I believe we will go with an 8,000 liters (2113 gallons) tank, for initial water storage. The reason is, since we may put it in the barn to keep it out of the sun, we will want it to take up as much space as possible in the barn bay. 8,000 liters seems to be the right height tank (2.2 meters tall) and right tank width (2.4 meters wide) for the barn. The rest of the area will be used to house the cows out of the weather.

      New Barn Thread Here.

Anyway, at last contact, the wellman said he would go to the farm with us in four days. This was yesterday. So, we will see how that goes. I may have to wave some greenbacks in his face to get him off his keister to get out there.

I was reading where there is a major dengue fever outbreak going on in Cambodia and surrounding countries. I always like to hear from the boots on the ground. In your opinions, what do you see? Also read that a French scientist came up with a vaccine for three of the four strains of dengue. Should be approved before the end of the year. Even the FDA is all over it. Thanks.

So, in recent months, they have run power poles down the road past Chan's Farm. Some of the farmers have chosen to have service connected, while others found it to be beyond their means - and I can understand why!

First, an image of the poles near the farm. (Her farm is across the street on the left side of this road.)

Now, the rates for the application for service and deposit.

      5 amp service = $17.50
      10 amp service = $35.25
      20 amp service = $96.50
      32 amp service = $247.00
      63 amp service = $521.56

The costs listed in the above image do NOT reflect ANY hardware to connect the service, poles to hang the service drop, breakers, wires, receptacles, light switches, lamps, OR the labor for installation.

We will still keep solar there. But, will run mains service for - of all things, back up power.

Fire guts hotel restaurant Mon, 26 August 2013 Khouth Sophak Chakrya
Fire destroyed the restaurant of the Juliana Hotel in Phnom Penh’s Prampi Makara district yesterday evening after a number of gas tanks exploded in the kitchen as customers sat down for dinner, witnesses said.

Hotel staff who asked not to be named said diners were asked to evacuate the restaurant after a gas tank explosion set some of the kitchen ablaze and employees tried to quell the flames with fire extinguishers.

“We tried to tell them to go outside because of the fire, but some ignored us, pretending not to care,†he said. “The fire then spread, causing a chain reaction of exploding gas tanks. Then everyone ran out.â€

The blaze began at about 5:30pm, sending fire trucks and police units rushing to the scene shortly after. However, it took firefighters until about 7:30 to control the blaze.

As smoke billowed across the Phnom Penh skyline, a separate fire broke out in a residential building little more than 100 metres away from the hotel.

This second fire, a police officer who asked not to be named said, was caused by an electrical fault. He declined to comment further.

Witness Srey Da said fear overcame her when she saw the building on fire. “We were very scared when smoke was coming out of the hotel,†she said.

Fearing the fire was going to spread, a number of residents living close to the Juliana Hotel rushed to carry valuable items out of their homes.

Neth Vantha, chief of the Phnom Penh Municipal Fire Department, said crews also attended a third blaze a short distance away.

“There have been three fires today,†he said. “One in Tuol Svay Prey commune [Chamkarmon district] and two in Prampi Makara district.

“The big one was the Juliana Hotel. We used 44 of the fire trucks’ water tanks to extinguish the blaze. The fire destroyed 100 per cent of the restaurant.â€

Contrary to the police’s comments, Vantha said he believed the second fire was also caused by a gas explosion in the kitchen of an empty flat.

“There were no injuries in any of the blazes, apart from one restaurant worker whose forearm was slightly singed,†he said.
