Amicable Vibes Bogus Tex Mex

Central Park is an al fresco eatery that is popular with expats in Mandalay.

The place has a limited menu with a duo-focus on pizza and Tex Mex fare. Been there several times in the 3 weeks I’m lived in Mandalay due to two reasons: one it’s a block away from my lodging and two the group of expats that hang there are an affable bunch; at times boisterous, though still good-natured.

I sorta vouch for the pizza; sorta. The cheese, spices and topping are fine, though the base is slightly doughy and uninspired.

Recommend staying away from the Tex Mex selection- whatever it is, it sure ain’t like any Tex Mex vittles I dined on when living in Texas. South of the Border no way.

Tonight I threw caution to the wind and tried the quesadilla. Quesadillas are all about cheese, gooey globs of melted cheese. Central Park’s was cheese-less. Zip, zero, nada cheese. Instead of cheese the so-called chef filled it with boiled corn; what a culinary travesty.

I wonder if the owner showed a photo of a quesadilla to the cook and simply told her, “cook this†without telling her the yellow stuff oozing out of the tortilla was cheese. The cook could have a slight case of myopia and thought the oozing yellow was boiled corn. Whatever the reason, boiled corn is definitely NOT an acceptable replacement for Oaxaca (or string) cheese in a quesadilla; no matter how fusion you might prefer your cuisine.

Stop by Central Park for the expat camaraderie and the mediocre pizza, avoid the Tex Mex choices.

I do prefer corn tortillas over flour but yes with cheese inside.
