Pattaya to Sihanoukville, via car.

I don't know how this particular service will be run but when I did the bus from Saigon to Phnom Penh this year, there were two hostesses on board who collected up the passports and got it done for us. The passengers just had to do the finger printing and then back on the bus and away. Dropped me right at Street 104.

Nice, hostesses on a bus! Not in this country these days. I wonder if they serve drinks :P

How much to hire a driver/car from Pattaya to the border at koh kong and how much from the border to Snooky?

The total cost, as we split it three ways at $60 USD each, was $180 USD.

Bus might be an interesting way to see the countryside. I guess you would stop at the border and be processed for visas etc before continuing?

Kenny started a thread recently about a non-stop deal where you can take the bus from Phnom Penh, direct to Bangkok, and not get off the bus. At the border, I believe he said anyway, they sort your exits and entries for you.

EDIT: Whoops. I see this was already answered by Kenny.

I guess I should put this in another topic area but seeing we're already started....

Living in the Philippines was for the most part great with the exception of food, which is limited but what the hell. The Philippines country side and especially the islands are lovely. The people as nice as you'll meet anywhere, BUT, it's like Australia in as much as whichever way you turn and however far you walk, you're still in the Philippines.

Now Cambodia on the other hand reminds me of when I lived in Bruxelles.

Jump on a bus and within a few hours you're in a whole 'nother country.

If you felt like it and had a couple of days you could leave your hotel in Phnom Penh and via bus and train be in Singapore by the end of the week. All for a hundred dollars or so.

How good is that?

Since this is almost 5 years old I figured I would provide updated info.

Went from Pattaya to Koh kong by mini bus (big van) at a cost of 750 baht had to change vans 2 times some place in Trat. Once at the border payed 20 baht for health check and 1600 baht for visa. Yes I know the visa should not cost that much and i argued that fact to no avail. Was quoted 3500 baht for car to Sihanoukville. Another guy from my mini bus was headed to Sihanouk as well so after much bartering got them down to $75 for both of since there was other girl wanting to go half way there.

After reading lots of reviews of this trip one thing i insisted on was pay when we get there and that took most of the time for them to agree to. seems some people pay and then get dropped off half way or have to change cars many times.

whole trip took 11 hours door to door and i am now to tired to do much exploring tonight.

The cost of the journey lokias seems to have gone up so much since I did that trip last year. I think I had wrote on one of the threads. I would book the mini bus from the coffee shop on soi welcome. 400 baht to the boarder. Moto dot to koh Kong $3. stay in a hotel for the night $5-$7. Morning bus to Sihanoukville $7.

In Pattaya I did check one other travel agent and they quoted me 1000 Baht. I really did not shop around to much for the mini bus so cheaper options may be out there. as for the bus from Koh Kong I did not check the price but from what i have heard it should be around $7 or $8 dollars but i did not want to wait. I took the Car from right at the border to sihanouk and from the research i could find most people are paying about $60 for the car with a few people so i felt i did ok.

The trip was a pain and only did it to see more of the country side. I knew going into the journey it was not going to be easy. Will fly next time I come to Cambodia.

I have been told recently by a few travellers, the agents in Pattaya have been asking higher prices.
