Ahhhh, but was there a blizzard blowing and Polar Bears to contend with?
My nephew was the head cook on the USS Santa Fe and attack sub. One advantage to this job is he had his own bunk, no hot bunk required. He liked the Navy, but the SEAL missions they did were just too much for him, so when his 6-year enlistment was up he told them he'd only re-up if they would transfer him to shore duty in the Shore Patrol as he wanted to follow in his grandfather's footsteps and become a cop. They said no, he said goodbye and that was that.
Fortunately, he spent better than a month with me on the ranch after his discharge (he loved my horses) and I was able to talk some sense into him and get him to change his career goal to become a fireman. He's now a Captain with aspirations to become chief and was named fireman of the year his third year in. Good kid, my nephew.
