I guess DU30 is making some expats nervous and they are looking for alternatives.  It would be hard to find a better one in Asia than Cambodia me thinks.

I've been considering Cambodia even before Duterte. For me, the Philippines is just too frustrating and sometimes mind boggling in their backwardness.

For example, this week I had to close my bank accounts at Metrobank, due to insanely bad customer service, and stupidly opened new accounts at BPI. It took 6-1/2 hours to close the accounts, then about 3 hours to open new accounts, plus an additional 4 hours to finally go back (twice) to deposit cash monies.

I have to give the Khmer banking folks a hand here.

If I walk into a Canadia Bank branch, for example, I have to get a ticket and wait. There is a board with the currently (being served) numbers in the waiting area. As your number is called - in Khmer for the Cambodians, English for foreigners, you will be routed to a given window where you will be assisted. Even in a very busy day, it has never taken long for them to assist me. They typically have about 8 or 9 windows open, waiting on customers. The line certainly moves along at a good pace!

Every time I go in wearing a tie or generally well dressed I get walked directly to a window no wait.

I'll take my 20 seconds waiting time, with shorts, a t-shirt, and flip flops.
