Designated bank in Cambodia for direct deposit of US Social Security?

Recommended Posts

In Thailand, where I am currently residing, Bangkok Bank is the only bank authorized to receive direct deposit of United States Social Security payments. What is the designated bank in Cambodia for such deposits?

Call the SS office at the Manila Embassy they would know if there is one and if one is in the works.

Jools, I would imagine almost any bank that would offer USD savings accounts, could receive direct deposits for you.

I checked about 6 months ago.  At that time there were still NO Cambodian bank is authorized to receive Direct Deposit SS payments.    Those      It has only been a few years since they allowed an American living in Cambodia to receive their payments at all.   They think Cambodia's government and banks are to corrupt.

However they allow at least 15 Philippine banks to participate.    Forget that Philippine banks were responsible for one of the largest bank scams in history.    Stealing 81 million from Bangladesh thru SWIFT.   46 million still missing.    Where is the corruption???

Your only viable option is to have the payment sent to a bank authorized to accept it and then ATM it.

It takes a little time to find the list of counties authorized to receive SS payments but it IS on the Official U.S. Gov SS web site.    List all the countries in the world that are approved.

Monies one is entitled to start drawing, after having reached the minimum retirement age, that they have paid in during their entire working career.

It is the Social Security Administration.

There are several forms of Social Security in the USA but for a retiree this would likely be retirement payments from a government managed retirement fund that the recipient has been paying into during their working years. Other forms of SS include things like disability which is not based on recipient contributions in the past.

What do they base that on?

What do they base that on?

It's based on the disability (type and severity)  and income (need).

I believe that all forms of SS other than the basic retirement benefit require not being out of the country for more than 30 days at a time.

In the UK if you get that type of benefit you are not allowed to leave the country! Due to the fact that other people have paid tax for those people to have care.

As much as it pains me to use the word "benefits", when creating a topic regarding the SSA, "benefits" is definitely a keyword to search for. Anyway, here is an article that was mailed to me recently, by the Schwab auto mailer.

After reading about Schwab I am very interested. I travel a lot and get killed on fees from ATMs. However, there is only an appointment only office in Vancouver (yes I'm Canadian) and I don't know if I will be able to get there before I leave Canada. I had a look online and it appears I can open an account that way. Before I go further, has anyone else done this and which type of account would I want?
