The internet refers to PoiPet as a “boomtown”. A boomtown based on casinos and thousands of Thai gamblers.

Wiki defines a boomtown as:

“Boomtowns are typically characterized as "overnight expansions" in both population and money, as people stream into the community for mining prospects, high-paying jobs, attractive amenities or climate, or other opportunities. Typically, newcomers are drawn by high salaries or the prospect of "striking it rich" in mining; meanwhile, numerous indirect businesses develop to cater to workers often eager to spend their large paychecks. Often, boomtowns are the site of both economic prosperity and social disruption, as the local culture and infrastructure, if any, struggles to accommodate the waves of new residents. General problems associated with this fast growth can include: doctor shortages, inadequate medical and/or educational facilities, housing shortages, sewage disposal problems, and a lack of recreational activities for new residents.”

I concur, PoiPet does fit the usual definition of boomtown – a town with rapid population growth without the infrastructure to accommodate that growth.

Not sure if this old geezer wants to expend the energy and weather the pity inconveniences daily to deal with life here.

Been pondering actually retiring and moving into the house my wife purchased in Kampong Speu. Might be boring though with all the crazy hassles in PoiPet the shift does seem kind of appealing. Kind of but who knows what I'll end up doing - wife does NOT like the idea of moving to Kampong Speu; she loves Battambang.

Had a five foot uninvited guest this morning. Popped him over head ....rip Sopheap nearly had a heart attack. Yelling and screaming.Use to eat snake 40 yrs ago when I lived in the Sierra Nevada mountains - though the meat is rather tough (needs alot of boiling) and really have way too many bones - time consuming to eat.Attached File  snake.jpg   104.39KB   0 downloadsAttached File  snake2.jpg   104.19KB   0 downloads

Asked Sopheap to cook it up - her reply was several vulgar expletives!!!
