  1. So, about eight months ago, my main bank, credit union, actually, decided to "block" a lot of foreign countries from being able to access their site directly. Not really sure why ANY company or business would do this, though. I mean, ANYONE can use a VPN to get around the "blocks". So, it's a pretty stupid move that could, potentially cause issues for their customers. Well, it caused me issues, for sure. Granted, I have been with this credit union since they merged with and absorbed my former credit union, based out of Atlanta. We are talking over 15 years ago, here. Anyway, about eight months ago, I had to start paying $10.00 USD / month for a VPN. (Yes, I know I could have gone cheaper / free.) Previously, I had logged on to my credit union, and had been doing business with them, while abroad, all these years. In fact, I don't think I ever used an ATM to withdraw funds from that credit union, until I went to the US last winter. About the same time, I contacted the credit union to see what could be done, so I could continue to access my accounts. It was pretty ridiculous to have to pay just to access the damned thing. I was informed to email the IT department, through the main email address for the credit union. (I knew this was going to be a load of laughs.) After finally getting them to allow me to communicate with an IT guy directly, last week we finally got it resolved. They added my IP address to the "you-are-special" list. Again, pretty feckin' stupid, if you ask me. What have they actually stopped, by doing this? Nothing, really. Fortunately, I now run a static IP address, through Metfone. So, as long as I use my Metfone ADSL account to access the credit union, I am fine. The page loads every time, fine. Another $10.00 USD / month I can finally use for something else.
