Comment After only his 13th match in charge of Sunderland (unlucky for some), Paulo Di Canio is the first Premier League manager to be sacked this season or, as they say in the trade, the first to be given the Spanish archer – the “el-bowâ€.
It does seem rather incredible to sack a man just after he has brought in 14 new players to the club, but I suppose by today’s fickle standards, five league matches into a new season is a lifetime in football.
However, Di Canio’s volatile style of management did not help his cause, nor did his political past, and it is rumoured that he was considering playing a relative of Joseph Goebbels out on the right wing.

Phnom Penh Crown capped off an active off-season week by confirming a one-year agreement with Thai sports apparel firm FBT that will see their senior and junior academy squads decked out in playing and practice kits as well as receive other gear such as tracksuits, rainwear, bags, balls and bibs.
Crown president Rithy Samnang travelled to Bangkok to seal the deal with FBT international marketing director Thamchai Chokephaibulkit.
“This partnership with FBT is very important to our club. Their products are of excellent quality and we are extremely pleased to have kicked off this relationship with one of Southeast Asia’s most successful companies,†Samnang was quoted as saying on the club’s Facebook page.
Crown will join Metfone C-League rivals NagaCorp and Boeung Ket Rubber Field in sporting the FBT-branded kit on the field from December’s start to the Hun Sen Cup competition.

The Freemantle Dockers delighted the 43,249 sellout crowd at Perth’s Patersons Stadium on Saturday night by producing some exquisite pressure football to shoot down the Sydney Swans in their AFL prelimary final.
The 14.15 (99) to 11.8 (74) win booked Freemantle’s place in next Saturday’s AFL grand final against Hawthorn, who recorded their first victory over Geelong Cats since 2008 with a thrilling 14.18 (102) to 15.7 (97) scoreline at the MCG on Friday.
Geelong’s Travis Varcoe had a chance to tie the game with seconds on the clock, but his effort from 30 metres out narrowly missed.
