Laying and hatching eggs?

Recommended Posts

Okay, this is a bit off topic - on a tangent from the topic.

But, I haven't quite sorted that out, yet.

That is, how can a hen lay x number of eggs, over x number of days, fertilzed by a rooster of course, and they still all hatch at the same time?

Well, they usually hatch within the same day or so, right?

coz when the hen goes clucky and starts to set, all the eggs begin incubating at that time. not before.

Usually lay within 24 hours, controlled by the hen sitting on them, when she has finished laying she will incubate, that's why they all hatch in a 24 hour period.

If you want to tell if your eggs have fertilized, have a look at candling on the internet, easy to do.

I love to watch a hen with her chicks in tow, feeding and generally wandering around. One of mine used to sit on my motorbike, same thing everyday morning, chase her off it, next morning same again, I am sure she enjoyed pissing me off ;-)
