If you were basing it off of the 1 person.

I have only ever been in the touristy areas in Thailand but I definitely get the feeling they just want my money then for me to leave.

I would never base such a judgement from one incident with one person.

But, what you say is true. Come, spend, then get the hell out of our country.

When I worked in Myanmar it was necessary I stay one night in BKK in transit from Cambodia. Worked out to be 5 times a year for 4 years – 20 stay-overs in BKK. Visited all the popular tourist areas in addition to some sleazy haunts

Not once did I find BKK very enjoyable. Usually the bombardment of rudeness by the locals I found depressing.

My personal experience traveling several times from BKK to the Hat Lek border the trip has taken the same amount of time as traveling from PP to KK. – both about 7 hours.

A couple times the bus I hired in BKK which advertised a non-stop trip to Hat Lek, stopped off in Trat and there was a 2-3-4 hourextra wait for the next bus. One time I took a taxi from Trat to Hat Lek and it cost me an arm and a leg.

If I were making the trip from Oz to Koh Kong, I’d fly into PP and get a taxi to KK.

Also the second half of the PP to KK trip is through the mountains, which are picturesque. Visually stunning.

Yes I have done both routes previously also, but as nice as the view is, it's travelling by road especially I try to avoid, I just don't like it. Admittedly it was only one time from PP to KK by taxi ( Cambodiataxidriver I got from online search $70 a few years ago).  The other times it was fly Perth- Bangkok- Trat, then taxi to the border, ( I THINK it was ฿2000 ) not definite about price it wasn't a regular airport Taxi.

When I'm travelling I don't ever actually enjoy the journey itself I just want to board a plane and arrive....the bit in the middle ..I can't wait to end! I suppose it's because I've spent decades flying to and from work, airports ,taxis, buses , waiting, queuing, getting ripped off paying extortionate prices in airport bars, people farting on flights -yes true- children crying...usually a seat in front or behind me , movies I've already seen. I guess I'm an old curmudgeon at this stage.

She has a passport then. Or pass book. Or pay police.

Khmers come and go all the time, at the border crossings. Chan said they are allowed to go as many times as they want, during the day. But, they must be back in country at night, unless they carry a passport with them.

Is that just to the market on the other side. Must say its prity slack of them. Is it both sides, it must be.

Our border is more strict. Although they can get documents from the immigration police on the border. Same thing but official and paid for.

In PoiPet the majority of the casinos are located in an area between the immigration posts of Thailand and Cambodia. So the Cambodian immigration tolerates foot and vehicle traffic without checking.

I understand this. But that is if you like no mans land. I would have thought Thai immigration would be keen.

In the 11 months I've been in PoiPet haven't traveled to Thailand even once.

So I have no idea how tight their immigration is now.
