Dirt Farming Producing Much Bigger Dividends?

Recommended Posts

Parrothead

I tried it using aquarium air stones way back in the eighties.

It's a lot of messing about for very little reward, unless you have a high value crop.

One needs to be careful with all these 'ponic' methods that one treats them as what they are, a hobby.

If at all possible, dirt farming will pay much bigger dividends.

Hi Kenny,

Your statement got me thinking about the actual comparison between dirt farming and aquaponics farming. So, off I went, searching. I was able to find something recently that I wanted to share with you. (Please see attached PDF, below.) A quite detailed log shows a comparison between dirt farming and an aquaponics system covering 500 square meters.

If you would, please have a read. I think it may surprise you. It certainly did, me.

Another PDF I found, with further information on the above system:

I was surprised too! They have a good working system. The yield of crop was plentiful with fish too. Some good detail, It would be interesting to compare with build and start-up costs, when it would make profit over the soil based growing. Waste and running costs.
