Queenco Casino Has Racist Gaming Policy

A short alert: Queenco Casino in Sihanoukville has a Chinese only admittance policy.

To give the salient facts, Queenco Casino has two buildings; one on the beach and one directly across the street. Both are a combination hotel and gaming venue.

Stopped by the Queenco Casino that’s situated across the road from the beach (if memory serves me right it’s housed in the former Holiday Palace Casino with extensive renovations.) Strolled in the front double doors and made a right turn to enter the casino. When I got about 10 feet from the metal detector entrance to the gaming section the guard sprung up out of his chair looking worried and spread his arms outward blocking entry. Stammered in very broken English that this venue was for “Only Chineseâ€. I couldn’t believe my ears; now I know firsthand how demeaned Rosa Parks felt when she was ordered to sit in the back of the bus.

Even though I was shocked, I managed to ask the guard if the other Queenco Casino on the beach allowed “barangs†(what Khmers call westerners). He nodded yes so I headed across the street just see if I could gain admittance. I was allowed in, but passed on the opportunity. Racism is an ugly business practice. Queenco won’t see me again ‘til they terminate their racist gaming policy.

Considering the huge amount of money the Chinese gamblers spend compared to the chump change I spend my guess is that the 'Chinese only' policy ain't gonna change.

ven·ue

the place where something happens, especially an organized event such as a concert, conference, or sports event.

Could it be that on that particular evening they were holding a special event for a Chinese group? It is not unusual for a business to hold a whole place for one group such as when a restaurant closes the whole place for one group. I would not hold it against them unless it is a daily situation.

I went at 10AM - no vehicles in parking lot- casino is open 24-7. 3 Chinese walked in while was blocked. Were dressed casually, no event. Queenco has a couple of banquet halls, party halls - never saw the inside of a casino where the gaming tables and slot machines are ever used for a party.

Racism is an ugly business practice

Now is it racism? And whom is it who has made it an only Chinese venue?

Cambodians are not allowed also to gamble in their own casinos.

From asking around what I've been told the gambling room in that half of Queenco is for exclusively Chinese. Guess if you're Cambodian but have Chinese features you can sneak in.

Wiki defines racism as:

prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.
Ergo - I'm white so I'm too inferior to be allowed to play cards with them.

Look at the Phnom Penh Post. Khmer's were arrested in a casino in Sihanoukvile. Accused of cheating. They can't gamble by law.

I personally would not want to play cards with the Chinese! Especially if they were prejudiced against me.

i dont think its racism as even in ur description ( ....different race )

On its own the term "Chinese" is too vague to be a race, a nationality or an ethnic group. Sometimes the context will make it clear what sense is intended. For example in the statement "Xi Jinping is the new Chinese President", 'Chinese' clearly means the state called the People's Republic of China.

'Chinese' can mean many things. Unqualified, it doesn't describe a race, a nationality or a specific ethnic group.

Cambodians cant enter/gamble in casinos in Cambodian,  Bahamians cant enter casinos in Bahamas. A Singaporean needs a special permission to gamble in Singapore,  am sure there other as well (can a Laotian gamble in Laos?)
