Also about small farms! many have been rented or bought in many areas. Locals are ecstatic at large prices for their land, but with no thought for afterward. So to sum up not a lot is safe and sure. Only monies that had never been on offer before.

Well, if they really want a bunch of rice farms, I'm quite sure Chan would be very happy to sell them hers. We would happily go elsewhere, if they are dumb enough to offer the kind of money they are offering in Sihanoukville. I mean, $25,000 USD per month, according to one statement in the article I posted above? Really? If that is truly the case, the Chinese have a heck of a lot more money, than they do sense.

This is the point I am making! Go where, only now the Khmer will have to pay the extortionate rents.

Well, I will be the first to say I would never go somewhere so remote as to where you moved to, when you left here. But, I could definitely move to a smaller town if necessary. We have some referrals regarding businesses that will ship imported foods just about anywhere in the country. So, we are no longer quite as limited as I once thought we would be.

John it is too late mate. It is Chibodia now.

Paul, was planning it but looks like it may be headed the way of Snooky so am holding off. End of April I will do 5.5 months of travel out if 6 including a look at Peru, Ecuador and Panama. I will post on occasion and give a wrap up when I am done in August. Then back to Kampot for a couple of weeks on my way to Madagascar. After that, who knows?

I would love to see some pictures from your travels. Especially if you go to Machu Picchu Peru. A place I always wanted to visit and see the H stones and the ancient ruins there. Good luck!

Oz Jon the powers that be know what is going on all right and they are laughing all the way to the bank in their brand new Range Rovers. Yes looks like it is going to be a Chinese colony and it won't take until 2040. I think you have a few years left Paul before they come to pave over your farm.

Well, worst case scenario, I can take my happy arse elsewhere. I guess, very, VERY worst case, we could return to the US, to live in some very rural area, maybe on top of a mountain, somewhere in rural Idaho.

The really sad thing is that Cambodia is being sold off, bit-by-bit for a pittance.

The Chinese are following the very successful 19th century British Colonial strategy of "divide-and-conquer"...... but with a financial twist

Each if these small players thinks they are getting an enormous price. But actually, China will gain control of Cambodia on the cheap, without having to buy all of it.

Unfortunately, the (very powerful) Cambodian leadership either cannot see what's happening or, for some reason, is quite happy to watch it.

Do you believe this? I think more of the opposite, now the rich are able to get richer, same the world round I would say.

Money can't give you everything but it helps.

As Vietnam takes steps towards legalising gambling for its own citizens, analysts warn of a threat to the bottom line at Cambodia’s premiere casino, NagaWorld, whose patronage depends largely on gamblers from neighbouring countries.

Local Vietnamese news agency Thanh Nien reported on Tuesday that the Vietnamese Communist Party’s Politburo had decided to allow Vietnamese “meeting certain criteria†to gamble in a casino to be built in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

The move suggests the government is leaning towards relaxing some, if not all, of its ban on Vietnamese nationals gambling in the country.
