Wouldn't life be boring if everything just worked out according to the original plan!

Well, living in SEA, and having to deal with people who have logic processes 180° from ours, I would say, "Wouldn't it be nice if anything worked out according to the original plan!?" :D

I guess that there must be some compensations, or no-one would do it - Lol!

Heh!  ... Life is a game! - enjoy while you can!

I see that it isn't supported by the bricks on 3 edges as I'd imagined! - So it's just a normal "on the ground" pad!

Just that the "ground" is not quite as compacted as a pad on virgin ground would be.

It should work fine.

Yes. 3 sides bricked up. The rear wall is the outside wall for the existing bathroom. We added that on a few years ago.

One step closer to having my bum gun back!

And, it ended up being long enough to add another vertical 500 liters poly tank, later.

It's finished, for now anyway. Next will be a bit of metal roof up top, partial metal sides to keep the direct sun off the tank area (1 meter to the right of the step, down to the corner, and to the end adjacent to the wall) and finish the bricks to clean up the look, a bit.

Finally. Completion of the project - for now, anyway. Now, you good folks can see why the foundation was needed. Yes, it was made over sized for this particular project. But, there is a reason you will see, below.

The pump is a Mitsubishi WP-105, Q5 Series Water Pump. It's perfectly okay for the tank outlet to be positioned below the pump inlet. The pump can, if needed, draw water from as far down as 8 meters below its inlet flange.

We will add either another tank in parallel with this one, OR, possibly replace it with a single larger tank. We may go with say a 1,500 or 2,000 liters tank. The capacity depends entirely on how long a single fill will last, with the current setup. We are keeping an eye on the capacity of the water tank, daily.

Yes, I know I should add a strainer, at least. At best, a full filter. One thing at a time. After all, the water being used is pure, clean rainwater. It will be fine for the short term. At worst, I will have to replace the bum gun head, after adding proper filtration.

The little Mitsubishi pump is pretty good, if I may say so. No complaints, thus far. Works like a charm. Personally, I am glad to have the little fellow on the job. I was growing tired of having it in the container. (We purchased the pump and the tank, ages ago. Sometimes, it just takes a while to start certain projects.)

Now, I just need to manufacture a simple water level indicator, so we don't have to continue looking inside the tank to determine available water volume.

Well, over the past month, we have been able to record how often we need to fill the tank. Typically, 500 Liters of water, will only last me from 3 to 4 days. So, it looks like we will have to either add another tank, or replace the current one with a much larger tank - most likely the former, though. It will be quite easy to pipe a second tank in parallel with the first.

Not sure what we will end up with, although 1000 Liters would be the smallest tank we would add. More likely, 1,200 Liters, or 1,500 Liters, is what we would go with.

I also almost ran the pump dry, once. So, I will be installing a float switch to kill the power feeding the pump, in the event of a low water level situation.

The "proposed" house that is show on the images in THIS THREAD, is something I have been working on for a while. Trouble is, I keep changing the actual roof style AND size of the home I want to construct. I would like to share the current one I am working on. I am trying to create a plan that is fairly easy to expand later.

The first plan shown is the smaller of the two, thus a better choice to build, financially.

Anyway, no matter which "plan" we end up going with, the first issue is money. We will have to build it in stages. We have recently completed stage one, adding fill dirt to increase the height of the land where the home is to be built.

In this first image, you can see where I added a 4" (10cm) foundation slab, showing where we could possibly expand later. Adding the exterior door gives us a walk through later, and the window will probably be changed to a "pass through" type opening, as well. That way, we limit our "losses" in the original build. (I did not notice that I had not added stairs to the front deck, until I took the screenshots. I will add them later.)

No expansions will be added to this side of the home, due to its close proximity to the property line.

The rear of the home will face south. I originally went with a hip roof, in order to face the home the same direction as all other structures existing on the property. I later changed it to a shed style roof for easy mounting of solar panels. Then, I decided to consider a static ground mount for the solar array, to simplify maintenance on the array. This may change again. But, I am leaning heavily on sticking with the ground mount.

In this image, you can see 3 - 20,000 liter (~5,283 US gallons) water storage tanks. I've calculated that this would add a significant buffer for water usage during the dry season. However, we would start off with one tank, later adding the others as time and money permitted. (Yes, I know locating a horizontal LPG tank would probably not happen here. Most likely, I will go with several vertical 45kg LPG tanks, probably in a small vented shed. That was the closest image I could find, to add to the drawing.)

      =====================================================================================

Here is an alternative plan, originally created by a friend of mine from my Cebu Forum. I have made some alterations to the plan, though. This was the first plan I started with.

My changes to the plan, above.

Doll house view of the plan. This is a two bedroom, one bath plan. But, I chose to use the second bedroom as an office area.

Plan with a hip roof. The best roof to go with, if I were going to go with solar panels on the roof and face the home the same direction as other structures on the property.

Same plan with a gable roof.

To be perfectly honest, I don't know what I will end up doing, regarding what we will build. Just taking it one step at a time here. I will probably come up with a few other options, regarding size, roof style, etc. Main thing is to get a roof over our heads out there. I may just start with a bedroom and bath, with the rest of the house unfinished.

I'm very tempted to buy a piece of land an build on it.
It will be a mix of house and small scale food production,
It's just under an acre and backs onto the Mekong  about 40 Klm outside of PP
Highway 6 about 4 klm after the Prekta Meak Bridge.

I don't need to infill the land as that was done over 10 yrs ago,
I can construct a house or put housing containers on it as desired.

Basic building costs to a western standard need to be understood.
Cost per sq mtr for concrete slab with steel reinforcement is the first thing I need to understand.
      Any suggestions on cost ???

Onto this I'll erect steel RSJ's to support the 2nd floor, roof, patio etc and create the 2nd level floor from light weight pre fabricated concrete panels that can be lifted into place.

This is just a thought and your comments are appreciate.
