The beach is not perfect I know.

I lived in SHV from 2008 to 2013 and thoroughly enjoyed it at that time. There are 7 beaches in the immediate SHV area, some good, some no-so good. My personal favorite was Hun Sen Beach about 5 or 6 clicks outside town. Also Victory Beach was neat.

Now, not sure, been a while since I've been there.

In spite of all the bad mouthing SHV gets from expats, I still miss the place.

And factoring in I live close to the locals 'lifestyle, few western conveniences, I probably wouldn't be that affected by the Chinese building boom.

Gonna visit there my next long holiday.

That's good to hear :-) I do think there is "many" beaches close by that are not that bad if you take in the other beaches you can ride to in 20-30 minutes on your scooter :) Which also are less polluted. But I dont livet there (yet) so I cant really say that for sure. But recent reviews and YouTube videos from 2017 and 2018 shows so..

Nothing to do with the quote above!

But here examples of corruption or just convince?

*You had been talking earlier about offering the Thai police bribe monies! To save yourself time going to the police station to pay your fine?

So your being straight up with me, and your not on your  own, and won't be the last.

Corruption from the offender. Or convenience?

*Stopped for a traffic offence. No helmet. Broke the law. Police asked $1.

Corruption from the law. Or convenience?

I agree with you corruption is here.

But to you and me and others it's nothing.

Government papers am example above. What government papers here, and what would take months of approval without corruption?

The Thai police didn't ask for a bribe, nor would they accept one. In fact, they never asked for a bribe from me.

The Khmer police not only asked for a bribe, but often wanted as much as $50 USD. I never would pay more than the "going rate" of $1.00.

I don't mind paying, what I feel is a reasonable "fee" for the convenience of not having to deal with "extra, time consuming" matters. But, I'm not going to pay an exorbitant fee, either.

Not sure how much you are into partying and such. I would think the "typical" 26 years old guy would be. But, you could certainly be atypical, just as easily. If you are one who isn't into all of that, you may consider two other places, both by the water, as well. Kampot and Kep. Personally, I don't care to live in either one, primarily due both towns being so small. Kep, more because it is an almost non-existent town, offering very little besides housing and food for its residents. But, if you aren't much into going out and such, look at either of them, before Sihanoukville.

Alternatively, Siem Reap is on the Tonlé Sap Lake. LOTS of things for foreigners to do there, and many places to go out at night, with little or no Chinese invasion, so far anyway.

Well, I am not going out 4-5 times a week as I used to, but 2 times a week usually at the moment. So I assume Sihanoukville is the best for me since I am still into the party-scene? :)

Yea I liked Siem Reap a alot, but I just really want to live near the beach for once hehe... :)

Nothing cures a hangover like a dip in the ocean, a beer and fat meal :)

Kinda sucks about the Chinese invasion there tho...

I hope so. But, I am not so sure. Most of the places I used to frequent (I left there in 2013), have since changed ownership, or have been demolished.

Personally, I would not swim in that water. But, that is up to you. They have lots of pools in Sihanoukville. They are there for a reason. The sea water is too polluted.

Well, well see, at least I am going to rent an airbnb for the first month of two and if I feel like this sucks then I wont live there. If I feel like it's a place I cant LIVE.

Big difference between visiting and living so :)

But I hope I can live there, I like Cambodia, I like the beach, so fingers crossed!

Man, I honestly can't say, regarding swimming today. I would ask expats you may meet there, for recent information. It's just been too long since I lived there.

Ahh, okay. Well I guess I'll find out once I get there hehe. If I live there I am buying a scooter anyways, not paying for the overpriced tuc tuc fees. Heelll noo.

So if the beaches further away is "swimmable" its no problem :)
