Australian non-News

The trial of a prominent Australian figure ended very recently, but I cannot say who the defendant was, or what crime was involved, or the result of that trial, because any reporting is suppressed by a court "gag" order.

Such suppression orders are used in Australia when publication may have the effect of influencing a jury against the defendant in further future cases.

Presumably, there is such a future case pending.

All Australian news outlets have obeyed that suppression order because to do otherwise would expose them and their reporters to serious contempt of court penalties.
That hasn't stopped them from publishing dramatic bold-font front pages stating that there is a top news story which they are banned from publishing.

The farce is that foreign news sources (with no presence in Australia), social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc) are not constrained by the Australian ban and have had a field day reporting the case in detail and naming the defendant.

For a while, a Google search would find everything you would want to know. A lot of people have done just that.
I doubt that there is anyone in Australia who doesn't know the identity of the key figure, or doesn't have a pretty good idea of the subject of the trial and the result.

Fortunately for the defendant, he can have a word to an (exclusive agent) local witch doctor, make a few incantations, wash away any residual evil and live happily-ever-after.
