Monkeys at Phnom Sampeau

Mama Swah and the Monkeys at Phnom Sampeau (7 miles southwest of Battambang).

(Swah is Khmer for monkey)

Short visit to Battambang for the Pchum Ben Holiday.

Haven’t trekked to Phnom Sampeau for over 6 months.

Sopheap (Mama Swah) has a wonderful rapport with the simian inhabitants of Phnom Sampeau.

When we arrived not a monkey to be seen. Pip gave her Tarzan-like monkey call and immediately a couple dozen monkeys came swinging through the trees and scurrying to see their old friend and her tasty cucumbers.

She purchased 10 kilos (22pounds) of cucumbers for them. Contrary to common belief those monkeys definitely prefer cucumbers to bananas.

Bon appetit guys!
